What is Functional Manual Therapy®?
Functional Manual Therapy® is a unique approach to assessing the body as a system to identify and address components of dysfunction and restore efficient function. FMT® is a treatment system developed and designed by the Institute of Physical Art to address dysfunction and inefficiency in the human body and to restore efficient movement. Functional Manual Therapy® provides a comprehensive framework to identify not only symptoms of pain or restricted movement, but also the underlying causes and sources to provide resolution at a foundational level.
Is Functional Manual Therapy® an appropriate treatment for me?
Functional Manual Therapy is an advanced approach to physical therapy which can be safely and skillfully applied for your individual condition and/or diagnoses. Based on your evaluative findings, specific hands on therapy techniques and movement patterns can be used to restore efficient mobility of the joints and soft tissues which include muscle, nerves, organs, fascia, skin, tendons and ligaments. Neuromuscular re-education can then be utilized to improve specific muscle initiation, strength and endurance. Once efficient mechanics and neuromuscular activation is regained, treatment can focus on facilitating efficient movement patterns that allow for the optimal use of the body. These principles are applied specifically with regard to each individual’s unique condition and can include integration of everyday tasks for home, work or sport, and activities. Each individual can tap into their body’s existing potential to heal and return to the movements that promote their optimal health.
