What is Visceral Manipulation?
Visceral Manipulation is a delicate touch therapy, like craniosacral therapy, originally developed by Osteopathic physicians. Although it was invented to treat visceral organ dysfunction, visceral manipulation can also be the missing link to musculoskeletal problems like back and neck pain. The general treatment ideology of osteopaths is to gently manipulate the body enough to restart its innate healing processes and then give the body time to heal on its own. This philosophy rejects the notion that forceful manipulation should be used to correct pathology.
Is This the right treatment for me?
The typical client seeking visceral manipulation has a chronic long lasting condition who has already tried many other types of treatments with limited results.
What Problems Can VM Treat?
Abbreviated “VM”, Visceral Manipulation can be applied in the abdomen, pelvis, or thorax regions. Digestive issues such as IBS, Acid Reflux (GERD), Crohn's Disease, and Constipation. Thyroid, Urinary, and Respiratory conditions can also benefit.
How will I respond to treatment?
Visceral manipulation can yield either quick or slow results. It typically requires three to five sessions for the body take over and normalize. The frequency of visits can be once per three weeks or so.
How safe is it?
Because this is a delicate touch therapy, visceral manipulation is very safe for most people, but certain precautions do exist. It is important to know whether there are any surgical implants such as mesh, pacemaker, recent surgery, etc.. In these situations, visceral manipulation can still be done, but we do not work directly on those areas.
Physician Referral
Request a referral that says something like, "recommend therapeutic massage from a medical massage therapist that includes visceral manipulation to treat visceral fascia." Referrals are optional, but helpful because your physician can be involved.
